To use your old android device as an SMS gateway, there are some requirements.
- An android device that can connect to the internet and at least can run an app.

Now, let's start the process
First, visit this link, sms-gateway.app/ and register a new account there. Registration is quite easy, Just type your full name, email address and again write the same email address for confirmation. And click register.
After that, you will get an email with your login credentials.
Now visit the same link and login with your credentials. After that You will see the dashboard.
Move over to devices tab and click add device. After that, a popup will appear, and you will find an APK download link along with some steps to link your android device.
